About Edward Bilanchone

Edward Bilanchone is an expert at the Alexander Technique, Tai Chi, and golfEdward Bilanchone teaches the Alexander Technique, Tai Chi, and golf. He specializes in training the mind and body to improve performance, prevent injury, and enhance living. For 25 years, he has taught a variety of students how to improve their lives. Whether it's peak performance for athletes or as a part of a person's path to health, Ed's approach combines the modern science of human performance with ancient martial and movement practices. He has worked in diverse settings, including hospitals and universities. For 20 years he has been a student and now teacher of Tai Chi, which is an ancient internal martial art practiced by millions around the world. Ed has developed a unique way to combine the Alexander Technique, Tai Chi, and his lifelong passion, golf. In 2003, he became a certified teacher for the United States Golf Teachers Federation, and is currently working on a book about learning golf. He teaches the Alexander Technique, Tai Chi, and golf nationally and makes his home in Northern Virginia.

Ed began his journey as a professional ballet and modern dancer. Back injuries and pain forced him into early retirement. When exercise and traditional treatments proved unsuccessful, his doctors suggested back surgery. In 1986, he began to study the Alexander Technique with nothing to lose. He has never had to undergo surgery.

Ed is different from other teachers because of the scope of his interests. Psychology, physiology, sports, and the martial arts inform his work with students. He believes problem solving is an activity of the whole person. The physical, emotional, and psychological expressions of a person are not separate. We divide them into three categories for convenience and with the hope of understanding them better. Unfortunately, the opposite occurs. By separating the whole person into parts, we make it more difficult to enhance performance. Ed teaches the indivisibility of the whole person. He also honors individual learning styles, making learning more fun and effective.
